How should a beginner start reading the Quran with understanding?

A beginner does not need to finish the Quran quickly. Start with a small, daily portion — even a few verses — and stay with it. Choose a clear translation in the language you think in, and read slowly enough that the words can settle.

Pair recitation with a short, trusted tafsir note for the same verses. Ask what this passage asks you to believe, feel, or do today. Over weeks, that rhythm builds both fluency and understanding, and it is far more sustainable than long sessions that fade after a few days.
